A video does not play

Step by step4 stepsUpdated 30 October 2026

Most of the time, a connection check and a restart are enough. If YouTube changed something, SkipTube gets its fix from our server.

Short answer

Check your connection, close SkipTube completely, then open it again. SkipTube asks for the newest player fixes each time it opens.

SkipTube is for iPhone.

Try these first

  1. Try another video. If other videos play, the problem is with that one video. If none play, go on.
  2. Check that your iPhone has Wi-Fi or mobile data. When there is no connection, a strip at the top of SkipTube says You're offline.
  3. Close SkipTube completely. Open the list of open apps and slide SkipTube up and away. Then open SkipTube again.
  4. Open the same video again.

Why a restart helps

SkipTube plays videos in YouTube's own player. YouTube changes its pages now and then. When it does, SkipTube may need a fix.

The fixes come from SkipTube's server, so you do not need to update the app. SkipTube asks for them each time it opens. It asks again when you come back to the app, once its copy is 6 hours old. So a fix reaches you the next time you open the app, or within 6 hours if you keep it open.

If your phone has no connection, SkipTube still has a copy of the rules inside the app. It uses that copy.

Update the app

Sometimes the fix needs a newer version of SkipTube. Then the last row in Settings says Update instead of Rate SkipTube. Tap it to open the App Store, then update the app. See Settings, row by row.

It paused when you left

A video that stops when you lock your iPhone or leave SkipTube is not broken. On the free plan, video pauses when you leave the app. Pro keeps it playing. See Background play.
